Narada and the Tapas of Speech

  • Swami Saradananda (map)

ONLINE SATSANG with Swami Saradananda

The evening’s talk and meditation will focus on austerity of speech. This includes mouna (voluntary silence), which is more than a simple fasting of the vocal capacities; it is a powerful practice whose goal is to quiet the restless mind.

In the Satsang, I’d also like to introduce you to Narada, the travelling sage who has the ability to visit all planes of existence: Earth (Bhū), Lower regions (Patala) and Heaven (Swarga). He loves to gossip and exchange ideas between heaven and earth. Although he seems to create trouble, in the end it usually turns for the best.

Narada is sometimes regarded as the first journalist and is said to have authored the Narada Bhakti Sutras. He is an ardent devotee of Vishnu and is constantly chanting the mantra “OM Namo Narayanaya”.
